MUSKITA Aluminium Industries was honoured with the Gold accolade at the Cyprus Responsible Business Awards 2020, which took place on Thursday the 17th of June 2021, under the auspices of the Republic of Cyprus and CSR Cyprus. MUSKITA was distinguished in the category Energy Management for its green investment in the 2.5 MW Photovoltaic Roof Park.
The Cyprus Responsible Business Awards by BOUSSIAS CYPRUS aim to highlight the best practices and innovative activities of every responsible business, dedicated to the principles of sustainability, corporate responsibility and sustainable development.
With over 60 years of history in Cyprus, MUSKITA has a long record of social impact, delivering results to its community through donations, fundraising efforts, educational programmes and environmental initiatives. “Go Blue by MUSKITA” is the company’s environmental initiative with mission to raise awareness on environmental protection, sustainability and to lower its environmental impact. One of the company’s greatest challenges thus far has been the need for a clean energy source.
MUSKITA Aluminium Industries Photovoltaic Roof Plant is the largest 2.5 MW photovoltaic roof installation in Cyprus to date. The project’s aim is to reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of the state-of-the-art, vertically integrated aluminium extrusion and finishing factory under its roof. The photovoltaic plant is composed of 6750 solar panels, covers an area of 13,500 m² and contributes to approximately 30% of the factory’s energy needs, reducing MUSKITA’s CO2 emissions by 2500 tonnes annually.
As the first privately funded, photovoltaic roof park for industrial use on the island, MUSKITA’s investment leads by example, illustrating the economic viability of the project, while supporting Cyprus and the company’s goals towards a more sustainable future.
